NYLB Departments

The youth development program is comprised of seven departments that focus on teaching students how to obtain economic stability by equipping them with the awareness of the vast resources available and how to utilize them. These departments create the opportunity for the youth to expand their knowledge of the growing job market and various career paths and to experience many of these professions first hand, ultimately aiding them in their own career decision.

Program Schedules

Day Program

It’s been our experience that many inner city youth enroll in independent study, only going to a structured class once a week. This leaves the rest of their week open for potentially damaging activities. Our Day Program is a response to this phenomenon. We want to provide a program where students, who otherwise would be on the streets, can be in an engaged, structured, and positive environment.

Our Day Programs will provide the following workshops:

  • Workforce Development
  • Personal Finance
  • General Health
  • Substance Abuse
  • College Readiness

After-School Program

It’s traditionally been the case that after school programs involve academic tutoring. Although we wish to continue this tradition, we want our after school programs to be more than mere tutoring. Students should feel equipped for future endeavors when finishing our programs. This is accomplished by utilizing college students to interact with the youth. Every youth who comes through our program will have the opportunity to be mentored by a college student. This gives the youth a chance to ask questions and to share their experiences with someone they can relate to. It also gives college students a chance to invest in our nation’s future.

Our After-school Program will provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Workforce Developement
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • English
  • History

We may also provide the following activities: College Campus Tours, Mentoring, Life Skills Development, Fun Outings and Trips
